Cat Lynch has been working with individuals, families and groups as both an educator, specializing in early childhood issues and disabilities, and as a social worker in urban and rural community based settings for the past 16 years. She has worked in a range of agencies in New York City providing clinical and case management services to adults and children.

At Victim Services in the Bronx, Cat worked to empower and advocate for families involved in foster care prevention and in treatment for substance abuse and parenting support. Catís experience working in NYC also includes working with an alternative to incarceration program and women recently released from prison who were reuniting with their children as well as an early childhood special educator in Early Intervention and a Maternal ñInfant Health specialist serving the South Bronx.

She has also worked as a family therapist in school-based and community-based programs. Before coming to Choices Counseling and Consulting, Cat was in Pittsfield Mass, as a clinician at the Brien Center, a community based mental health agency and worked with adolescents and teens and their families. She ran groups in substance abuse/harm reduction, healthy relationships, anger management and relaxation.

Testimonial about Cat Lynch

She is a licensed clinician who treats clients involved in various stages of the life cycle process. She utilizes a psychodynamic approach focusing on family systems and mind-body awareness in the healing process. She currently teaches mindfulness based psychotherapy practices and will continue to expand her practice in mindfulness based and yoga interventions to the community when she completes her yoga teacher training program in Elemental Yoga in early 2010. This type of yoga therapy focuses on treating anxiety, depression and trauma in an integrated manner utilizing therapeutic yoga practice with breath work and meditation.

Cat particularly enjoys working with adolescents and teens from the LGBTQ community struggling with gender identity, orientation and gender expression issues and teaches mindfulness based practices in a manner that is both accessible and applicable to people presenting with a range of physical capabilities. Cat has experience in treating addictions, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss as well as parenting issues.

Cat is excited to be an associate at Choices Counseling and Consulting where she provides individual, family and group therapy. Cat received a Masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education from Columbia University and a Masters degree in Social Work from Fordham University.
